Welcome to Jr. Riptide ~ a USA Swimming and American Red Cross development, pre-competitive swimming program for young swimmers!
Jr. Riptide is administered by the Rockford Riptide Swim Team, a USA Swimming registered, age group swim program, part of the Community Services programs offered by Rockford Public Schools.
Jr. Riptide swimming is for swimmers very new to the sport who have progressed beyond a Level I-V Learn-to-Swim program, but might not know if they are ready for a competitive swimming program.
Jr. Riptide instruction focuses on: • Stroke fundamentals of the four competitive swimming strokes • Motor development acquisition and integration • Sport specific terminology • Sport specific activities and techniques
Athletes are taught in a positive, encouraging environment and provided opportunity to develop skill proficiency, while improving needed physical fitness components such as cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility and agility.
Athletes also strengthen interpersonal skills, learn problem solving skills, and build self-confidence while developing an understanding of team dynamics.
Competitive swimming experience is not needed prior to joining Jr. Riptide. Our coaches and instructors will work with swimmers to develop and refine competitive swimming skills and techniques.
Jr. Riptide is comprised of several swim sessions over the course of the year. These sessions may vary in length and some of them involve meet availability in addition to practices.
